Jay and Kelley's Ukrainian Trip

After three years and 14 days of waiting for our adoption, God has answered our prayers and we are now on our way to Ukraine. We have made this blog to help our family keep up with us as we go to find our new child. "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you." John 15:7

Day 7

Day 7-Friday
A long week... Just think, last week we were just leaving Raleigh to start this adventure. We woke up after about 8 hours of sleep last night. It is getting a little cold here so we were both a little chilly last night. I think the heat is controlled by the super, there is only one radiator and that is in the kitchen so we are hoping it doesn’t get too cold here before we leave. We do have a little electric radiator in our room which I am sitting by right now. It is almost 1pm here. We went to see Chas this morning and it went fine. And yes, the old lady was sweeping up leaves again this morning. We took him a pink bag with some books, pictures of the family and some matchbox cars. He was more interested in taking the cars out of the box and then putting them right back in the exact way he found them than playing with them. He really liked carrying the bag around and stopping and checking to make sure everything was in there. We were outside for about 45 minutes. It is challenging to be outside because there is so much to distract him. There was another couple looking/adopting(?) a small girl and there were lots of ‘groups’ (children) out sitting in their little huts with their caretakers. If you look in our pictures, this is where we sit when we are with Chas. We went inside and sat in the music room, the other couple (Ukrainian) was in there with the little girl. We played for about an hour. Today was about the same with Chas, he doesn’t really listen, but hey what would he understand anyway? He wants to play with the stereo and keyboard and keeps trying to touch it even though he knows he shouldn’t. Jay and I both are trying to be stern with ‘ni’- no. He listens, but runs away to something else. After a while I think he was getting tired and hungry and his caretaker came in to get him. He gave me and Jay a kiss and a big hug but was fine with leaving. I wish I knew where he went and what he did when we weren’t there. I probably will never know. Now we are home staring at the option of a ham and cheese sandwich or heading out to an early dinner after we post this blog. Svetlana went to the Dept. of Social Services this morning and got the ‘Conclusion’ finished (very important, so we can get a court date) and now is waiting for the director of Social Services to sign the document. She dropped us off and is heading back to sit outside the office and wait. If I am correct, she then has to take the paper to Kiev (by train) and take it to the State Dept. for approval of the court date. Pray, Pray, Pray today that we will receive a court date for next week. If that were to happen we may stay on our original time table! We are not going back to Our Children today because Svetlana needs to be at the Social Service building and doesn’t want us to go by ourselves. I am not sure what the weekends bring here, if we can go over or not - I forgot to ask. We talked to Dad, Jo and Dawn, Ricia, Jeanie, and someone called at 5:30am Carolina time I think it must have been Linda? Thank you for all your calls! Ricia said she had seen the girls and they were great.Litton I am waiting for you to blog me! I miss talking to you since you are at school all day. Tomorrow is Saturday so call before your game. I miss you so much and love you even more. Tell Amelia, Olivia Mae and Virginia that Mom and Dad love them and can’t wait to get home. Show them the pictures of your new baby brother. We were showing him your picture trying to get him to say ‘Bubby’. :)Well, off to the internet cafe to see if they will let us use our thumb drive. We still haven’t figured out how to connect via Bluetooth from our apt. We may stop by Kievstar and see if they can help. It would be great to be able to see what is going on in the world.
Love to you all, us
